Robby Cruz’s Top 5 Christmas Movies

Dec 15, 2020 | 12:12 PM

Christmas is just 10 days a way and if your household is anything like mine Christmas movies have taken over the TV. Just yesterday as soon as I got home I put Die Hard on which is one of my favorite movies this time of year.

Below I’ve put together a list of my top 5 Christmas Movies but before we dive into the list here are some honorable mention’s.

A Charlie Brown Christmas, lets be honest I love this move and really anything Charlie Brown. This tradition almost didn’t happen this year but thanks to an overwhelming outcry from fans Apple TV+ agreed to broadcast the Peanuts special on PBS. The next honorable mention goes to Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964). This movie is truly one of the best under dog movies in my opinion. From being ousted from playing with the other reindeer to helping an elf who wants to be a dentist and finally guiding Santa and his sleigh through the fog and being accepted by everyone is the true meaning of Christmas. It’s really a must watch. My final honorable mention goes to Tim Allen in The Santa Clause (1994). Not only is The Santa Clause Tim Allen’s big screen debut but it is a movie the entire family can enjoy watching with some hot chocolate at their side.

Enough with the honorable mentions here is my list of the Top 5 Christmas Movies I can’t get enough of this time of year:

#5 The Nightmare Before Christmas: This is by far one of my favorite Tim Burton movies next to Batman & Edward Scissorhands. This ghoulish movie mixes one of my favorite holiday’s Halloween with one of my least favorite holiday’s Christmas.

#4 How The Grinch Stole Christmas: The original 1967 version although I did enjoy the live action version of the film with Jim Carrey. The 1967 version has a much more homie feel to it and watching it makes my small heart grow three times.

#3 Die Hard: Probably the most brought up question this time of year. Is Die Hard a Christmas Movie? The answer, yes it is, after all it takes place on Christmas Eve in 1988.

#2 A Christmas Story: This movie like in most households on Christmas day will paly all day long. I love this movie because it reminds me of my childhood when all I wanted for Christmas is the hottest toy available only to be shot down (no pun in tended) only to find out my parents were amazing and got me the toy. Also Ralphie almost did what everyone told him he would do and that was shooting his eye out. Classic.

Finally #1 The Muppet Christmas Carol: This movie has to be one of the most underrated Christmas Movies out their. Although this adaptation of Charles Dickens classic book may not be the most faithful film version to grace the screen it is a wonderful introduction to the story for younger viewers. Plus it a Muppet movie and who doesn’t love a good Muppet movie.
