A new Microsoft system will be able to tell if you’re board in work meetings

Dec 4, 2020 | 8:45 AM

Doesn’t look like returning to the office is going to happen anytime soon. Which means many of us will be plagued with more Zoom meetings in 2021 and Microsoft wants to look in on these meetings to ensure that you are paying attention.

The patent filed by Microsoft suggest rooms being equipped with sensors to monitor participants, that may raise some privacy concerns.

This wouldn’t be the first time that Microsoft has launched a monitoring program. Just over a year ago they introduced a productivity score that allowed employers to see which office products employees were using and for how long.

The new system would monitor who attends a meeting, time of day the meeting is taking place and how long each person speaks using wi-fi and Bluetooth. Microsoft will also be tracking our boredom when it comes to attending meetings. They will track this with a few detectors that will check if those in the meeting are texting, checking emails or browsing the internet. If you are thinking what I’m thinking the answers is yes, they would in fact be monitoring our smartphones, as well as, other electronic devices we own.
